SINGAPORE: A 26-year-old Singaporean man accused of abusing several cats by stabbing, dragging, and throwing them has been handed a sixth charge and remains in remand.

Tan Yi Bin Ryan returned to court on Wednesday (16 July) for a mention of his case, which now involves six charges under the Animals and Birds Act. Most of the alleged acts took place in Toa Payoh.

The latest charge alleges that Tan cruelly tortured a light-brown cat on 13 March 2025, between 1pm and 1.10pm. He allegedly dragged the cat by its tail along a corridor near Block 15, Lorong 7 Toa Payoh, before slamming it against a wall three times and dropping it on the ground, causing it to bleed from its mouth and nose.

Court records show that Tan was remanded the following day.

He had earlier been charged for five other incidents of animal cruelty. On 21 September 2024, between 2am and 4am, Tan allegedly stabbed a ginger-and-white cat, causing a 5cm wound. The next day, between 4pm and 6pm, he allegedly stabbed three more cats — a black tabby, a ginger cat, and a white cat — at various Toa Payoh blocks.

In a separate case on 7 October 2024, Tan is accused of killing an orange cat named Field Field at Block 78, Lorong Limau. CCTV footage reportedly showed him kicking and stomping on the cat inside a lift before throwing it down from the 34th floor.

The court has adjourned the case following a recent High Court ruling in another animal abuse case where the offender’s sentence was doubled from 14 to 27 months.

Tan’s case will be heard again in August. If convicted, he faces up to 18 months’ jail, a fine of up to S$15,000, or both per charge.
