China man in red underwear climbs hotel exterior to escape alleged affair in Hangzhou

CHINA: An extraordinary and risky escape scene recently unfolded in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, leaving passers-by staring in disbelief. A man, suspected of being caught in an illicit affair, was filmed attempting to flee a hotel by climbing along the exterior wall — wearing nothing but a pair of red underwear.

The incident reportedly took place at a chain hotel known as Boyu Hotel in the Dingqiao area. According to footage circulating online, the man did not use staircases or elevators to leave after being discovered. Instead, he chose to climb out of a window and scale the building’s outer wall.

Dangling Several Storeys Above Ground

In the video, the man can be seen nearly naked, gripping the edge of a hotel advertising sign with both hands while his feet struggled to find support on a narrow ledge. The building was estimated to be about four storeys high, placing him several metres above the ground.

He moved sideways along the wall with extreme caution, inch by inch, as even a minor slip could have resulted in a serious fall. At several points, he appeared to pause, seemingly exhausted and fearful, before continuing his precarious manoeuvre.

Inside the hotel, people were seen peering out of windows to watch the unfolding drama, while below, a crowd of pedestrians gathered, craning their necks upward. The atmosphere was tense, with many onlookers unsure whether the man would make it safely back inside or down to the ground.

Viral Footage Sparks Online Debate

The short clip, lasting only tens of seconds, quickly spread across Chinese social media platforms, racking up massive views and shares.

Many users mocked the scene, joking that the man looked like he was “repairing an advertising sign” or pretending to be “Spider-Man”.

Others, however, were far less amused.

Some criticised his actions as irresponsible and dangerous, pointing out that he risked his life to avoid facing the consequences of his alleged behaviour.

One comment read that while he had the courage to engage in something morally questionable, he lacked the courage to confront the situation directly, adding that risking death in such a way only highlighted misplaced priorities.

A Dangerous Choice With Serious Consequences

Although the incident ended without immediate reports of injury, many online users noted that the situation could easily have turned tragic. The combination of panic, height and physical exertion made the escape extremely hazardous.

The episode has also sparked broader discussion about personal responsibility, impulsive decision-making and the risks people are willing to take when driven by fear or shame.

While the man’s identity and the exact circumstances remain unverified, the footage serves as a stark reminder that moments of poor judgement can place lives at risk — not only one’s own, but potentially those below as well.
