XUCHANG, HENAN: Panic erupted at the Pang Dong Lai supermarket in Xuchang, Henan Province, on Sunday (2 November 2025) afternoon after a man armed with a knife chased and injured a married couple inside the store. The suspect was later subdued by a quick-thinking security guard believed to be a former soldier.
According to multiple videos circulating on Chinese social media, the man — dressed in dark clothing — was seen wielding a knife and running after a man and woman through the supermarket aisles. Shoppers screamed and fled as blood was seen on the floor.
Eyewitnesses said the male victim attempted to escape while his wife cried for help, trying to stop the assailant. Moments later, a supermarket security guard tackled and restrained the suspect, ending the attack. The swift intervention drew widespread praise online, with many netizens hailing the guard’s bravery.
Suspect identified; victims in stable condition
A Pang Dong Lai staff member confirmed that the police were immediately notified and that operations have since returned to normal.
According to Xuchang Daily, police identified the suspect as Feng, 37, who allegedly attacked Wu, 41, and Xu, 39 — a married couple.
The Weidu District branch of the Xuchang Public Security Bureau stated that officers and mall security subdued the attacker at around 2:00 p.m.
The victims were taken to a nearby hospital, where their injuries were confirmed to be stable.
Police said the incident remains under investigation and pledged to handle the case “in accordance with the law.”
