GUANGDONG, CHINA: Police in Zhuhai arrested a man on Monday night after a knife incident near Gongbei Port in Xiangzhou District.
According to local media, the attack occurred at about 8.29pm along Yingbin South Road.
Police reported that two people were injured in the incident. Both sustained minor wounds and were sent to hospital for treatment.
Officers arrived quickly at the scene and subdued the 48-year-old suspect, identified by police as Lin, who was detained without further casualties.
Footage shows the attack and confrontation
Videos circulating online showed part of the assault taking place on a pedestrian walkway near the port.
In one clip, the man can be seen repeatedly stabbing a person on the ground. Another video shows him confronting port management personnel before officers overpowered him.
Authorities emphasised that the situation was brought under control swiftly, preventing additional harm in the crowded border area.
Police said the man has a documented history of treatment for mental health conditions.
An investigation is under way to determine the circumstances leading up to the attack, including whether the suspect had been receiving ongoing care.
Gongbei Port, a major crossing point between Zhuhai and Macau, sees heavy daily foot traffic.
The incident prompted renewed concern about public security and support systems for individuals with mental health needs.
