SINGAPORE: A man suffered multiple injuries after he tried to block a vehicle driven by his wife’s alleged lover, who attempted to flee the scene when caught in a compromising situation.
The accused, 50-year-old Chia Hiok Seah, now faces two charges in court.
These include one count of reckless conduct endangering the safety of others, and another for public nuisance under the Miscellaneous Offences (Public Order and Nuisance) Act.
Incident occurred in early hours of 29 June 2024
The confrontation took place at around 2:13am on 29 June 2024, at the multi-storey car park of Block 278, Compassvale Bow in Sengkang.
According to court testimony reported by Lianhe Zaobao, the husband, Wu Yongsheng, had gone to search for his wife after she failed to return home.
He recognised a car parked at the location as belonging to Chia, a friend of his wife’s.
Suspicious, Wu began filming the vehicle.
He eventually realised that the occupants inside the car were both naked.
Husband injured while attempting to block car
Wu attempted to open the vehicle door, demanding the pair step out.
However, they refused.
As Chia tried to drive away, Wu climbed onto the car’s hood in an effort to prevent them from escaping.
Despite Wu’s position on the hood, Chia allegedly continued accelerating. Wu lost his balance and fell from the moving vehicle.
He sustained abrasions on his face, hands, knees, and chest, primarily on the left side of his body.
Wu testified that he was in intense pain and bleeding after the fall.
He contacted emergency services and was taken to the hospital, where he underwent surgery at around 6am that morning.
Photos of his injuries were taken by paramedics and a nurse at his request, as he wanted documented proof of the extent of harm.
Following his treatment, Wu lodged a police report.
He explained in court that he had prioritised seeking medical assistance over calling the police immediately.
Wu was issued 14 days of medical leave and returned to the hospital for stitch removal.
He reported ongoing pain in his toes, discomfort while walking, and visible scars on his face.
His recovery continued for several months, with follow-up consultations lasting until October 2024.
Wu added that he has since been unable to engage in any strenuous physical activity.
Accused denies reckless conduct
Chia Hiok Seah has pleaded not guilty to the charge of reckless conduct causing hurt.
The court proceedings began on 1 July 2025, with Wu being the prosecution’s first witness.
Chia was reportedly familiar with Wu’s wife and had been in regular communication with her prior to the incident.
Further court sessions are expected as the case develops.
