Malaysian police are searching for a man who stabbed and shot an officer before fleeing with the officer’s firearm in Perak state early Sunday (7 Sept).

Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the incident began at about 1.15 am, when a patrol team from the Simpang Pulai station spotted a suspicious vehicle during a crime prevention round in the Taman Desa Pakatan area.

The driver refused to stop, and a chase ensued, ending at an oil palm plantation.

“During the attempted arrest, a struggle ensued between the suspect and our team,” Noor Hisam said in a statement.

“In the incident, the 26-year-old constable was shot in the abdomen by the suspect, who grabbed the policeman’s gun during the struggle.

The victim was also stabbed before the suspect escaped with the pistol.”

The constable is being treated at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun and is reported to be in stable condition.

Noor Hisam said the case is being investigated for attempted murder and other offences.

Following the confrontation, police discovered the body of a 62-year-old woman in the suspect’s Toyota Avanza.

Her head had been covered with a plastic bag, and an autopsy determined she died of suffocation.

Authorities have confirmed her identity but have not released her name publicly.

Nine individuals linked to the case have since been detained.

According to China Press, they were brought to court on 8 September, where a seven-day remand order was granted until 14 September.

Five men and a woman were arrested on 7 September, while another three were taken into custody the following morning.

It was reported that all nine suspects are related to each other.

The only woman in the group is being held under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, while the eight men are detained under Section 307 for attempted murder.

Police are continuing their manhunt for the main suspect.
