MACAU — Hong Kong action star Jackie Chan has faced online criticism after a video from a recent concert in Macau showed him patting singer Joey Yung on the back, sparking allegations of inappropriate behaviour.

Viral Moment at Concert

The incident occurred during The Greater Bay Area Film Concert 2025, where 71-year-old Jackie Chan was seen gently tapping Joey Yung, who was wearing a bare-back gown.

The short clip spread rapidly on Xiaohongshu, with some netizens accusing Chan of misconduct. Online users also speculated that Albert Young, chairman of Emperor Group — which manages Joey — had stepped in to shield her.

The actor was labelled with the derogatory phrase “salty pig’s hand”, a slang term in Mandarin and Cantonese used to describe molesters.

Clarification From Management

Joey Yung’s manager, Mani Fok, has since rejected the accusations. Speaking to Hong Kong outlet HK01, she explained that Jackie, Joey, Albert, Taiwanese singer Wang Leehom, and Chinese actor Xiao Zhan were preparing for a group photo at the time.

Fok clarified that Jackie was only reminding Joey to return to her designated seat, and described him as “a very gentlemanly person” who has known Joey since she was young.

Footage also showed Albert Young standing up before Jackie’s gesture, countering claims that he had intervened.

Public Reaction

The clarification helped ease online debate, with many users later acknowledging the video had been taken out of context.

Still, the controversy highlighted how viral clips can fuel speculation and spark heated discussions, especially involving high-profile celebrities.
