Actor Jeremy Renner has denied allegations made by Chinese filmmaker Yi Zhou, who accused him of sending unsolicited explicit images and threatening to call U.S. immigration authorities on her.
Allegations of Unwanted Messages and Threats
Zhou claimed on Instagram that Renner, 54, sent her a series of unwanted explicit images through direct messages and WhatsApp in June.
She alleged that when she confronted him, he threatened to “call immigration/ICE” on her.
Zhou also told People magazine that Renner “forced himself on me the first day we met” and continued sending “obscene photos without consent.”
Renner’s Legal Team Calls Claims “False and Defamatory”
Renner’s spokesperson and attorney, Marty Singer, have strongly denied Zhou’s allegations, calling them “totally inaccurate and untrue.”
Singer said Zhou’s claims were made out of retaliation after Renner “rejected her romantic advances” and refused to promote her film projects on social media.
According to him, the pair met twice — once in July during an interview for Zhou’s documentary Chronicles of Disney in Reno, Nevada, and again briefly in August.
Zhou Maintains Her Allegations
Zhou said she included Renner in her projects because she believed they were “in an evolving love relationship.”
When she later confronted him about “past misconduct,” Zhou claimed Renner threatened to contact immigration authorities — something she described as “deeply shocking and frightening.”
Cease-and-Desist Letter Issued
Renner’s lawyer accused Zhou of “relentlessly harassing and threatening” the actor with “hundreds of unsolicited and unwanted messages.”
A cease-and-desist letter obtained by People ordered Zhou to stop making “fabricated and salacious lies,” warning of possible legal action.
Zhou Responds and Cites Other Alleged Victims
Zhou reiterated her claims on Instagram, saying she had the right “to correct misinformation.”

She posted what she described as screenshots supporting her allegations and claimed that four other women had reached out with similar experiences.
“I believe the Me Too movement is not over and we need to fight more,” Zhou said.
