- Ukrainian crypto investor Konstantin Galich was found dead in Kyiv on 11 October with a gunshot wound to his head.
- His death followed a US$18 billion (S$23.3 billion) cryptocurrency sell-off triggered by new US tariffs on Chinese imports.
- Kyiv police are investigating the case as they examine possible links between Galich’s death and the recent market crash.
A 32-year-old Ukrainian cryptocurrency investor, Konstantin Galich, was found dead in his Lamborghini in Kyiv on 11 October.
The police stated via their official Telegram channel that Galich’s body was discovered with a gunshot wound to his head. A firearm registered to him was also recovered at the scene.
The incident came just one day after a major global cryptocurrency downturn on 10 October, which saw a US$18 billion (S$23.3 billion) sell-off.
Several cryptocurrency traders and analysts have attributed the market plunge to an escalation of the US-China trade war, specifically President Donald Trump's announcement of 100% tariffs on Chinese imports and new export controls.
Cryptocurrency markets had previously experienced substantial gains earlier in 2025, following Trump’s reversal of his earlier scepticism towards digital assets.
After assuming office, he had addressed cryptocurrency supporters at conventions, launched his own meme coin, and pledged to create a strategic cryptocurrency reserve.
According to Kyiv police, Galich had told relatives a day before his death that he was feeling “depressed” due to mounting financial difficulties.
Investigators also confirmed that he had sent a farewell message to his family shortly before his death.
Galich was the co-founder of the Cryptology Key trading academy and was regarded as a prominent figure within both the Ukrainian and international cryptocurrency communities.
Authorities have not confirmed whether his death is being treated as suicide or if foul play is suspected.
The Kyiv police stated that investigations into the cause and circumstances of his death remain ongoing.
