18-year-old MPV driver arrested after ramming motorcyclist in Johor Jaya

MALAYSIA: A multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) driver in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, was arrested after ramming into a motorcyclist and later crashing into a drain, police said. The incident, which sparked viral video footage online, left the motorcyclist and his pillion passenger injured.
Seri Alam deputy police chief Superintendent Vikra Mathiththan told reporters that preliminary investigations indicate the incident occurred on 17 December at around 6pm in Taman Johor Jaya.
The scuffle reportedly began when the motorcyclist stopped his vehicle, obstructing the MPV’s path.
The MPV driver sounded his horn, prompting an argument and a physical altercation.
The driver then rammed into the motorcyclist, causing injuries and damaging the motorcycle.
Victims treated at hospital
The motorcyclist and his pillion passenger, identified as his wife, were treated at Sultan Ismail Hospital.
Both were reported to be in stable condition.
Police confirmed that the pillion rider sustained injuries after being dragged by the MPV.
Arrest and investigation
Police arrested the 18-year-old MPV driver at 9.40pm on 17 December.
The Johor Baru magistrate’s court granted a seven-day remand order against him.
Superintendent Vikra said the driver is suspected of reckless driving and lodging a false police report related to the incident.
Authorities have urged the public not to speculate or circulate unverified information.
A video showing the MPV ramming into the motorcyclist before skidding into a drain has circulated widely on social media, prompting public concern over the incident.
