MALAYSIA: A five-metre reticulated python weighing an estimated 60 kilograms was captured after it fell through the bathroom ceiling of a home in Taman Bandar Baru PKNK, Sungai Petani, last Wednesday (12 November), the Civil Defence Force (APM) confirmed.

The incident began when a 15-year-old girl returning from school noticed the bathroom ceiling had cracked.

Her mother, teacher Nor Hayati Md Rajab, 50, later inspected the area and initially mistook part of the exposed snake’s body for “batik cloth” before realising it was a reptile.

APM officers were called to the home at 4.01pm and pulled the python out from the ceiling space, causing it to fall to the bathroom floor.

No injuries were reported.

Snake Likely Entered Through Nearby Tree

Nor Hayati said she was shocked by the size of the snake and believes it may have entered through a soursop tree behind the house.

She also recalled two flowerpots overturning days earlier, possibly due to the snake’s movement.

She and her children remain shaken and now check the bathroom surroundings before entering.

The home is located near a swampy area, which may have been the python’s point of origin.

APM has since confirmed the successful capture of the reptile and removed it safely from the property.
