Animal cruelty outrage after starved dogs found, some allegedly thrown from high-rise in Petaling Jaya

MALAYSIA: The case was brought to public attention by animal welfare activist Shima Aris, who shared photos and videos on Instagram documenting the conditions inside a flat unit in Kayu Ara, Damansara Jaya, Petaling Jaya. According to her account, multiple dogs — including very young puppies — had been kept inside the unit for an extended period under severely unhygienic conditions.

The footage showed the dogs living amid piles of rubbish, faeces, and scattered debris. There was no visible supply of food or clean drinking water, and the unit was reportedly left without proper lighting. The confined and unsanitary environment raised serious concerns about prolonged neglect and suffering.

Shima stated that a total of eight dogs were discovered inside the small flat, including puppies that had not yet been weaned. She described the scene as distressing, noting that the animals appeared to have been abandoned and left to survive in conditions unfit for life.

Discovery of Dead Dogs and Allegations of High-Rise Disposal

The situation took a more alarming turn when Shima revealed that two dogs were already dead when she arrived at the scene. She alleged that their bodies appeared to have been thrown from the 11th floor of the building, landing on the roof of shop houses below.

This allegation intensified public anger, as it suggested not only neglect but extreme acts of violence against the animals. Images and videos shared online quickly circulated, prompting condemnation from netizens and renewed calls for stricter enforcement of animal welfare laws.

The incident is believed to have taken place in a low-cost flat unit within the Kayu Ara area. Authorities have not been publicly detailed in the activist’s account, but the case has drawn attention to the vulnerability of animals kept in private residential units without oversight.

Survivors Found Severely Weak, Possible Cannibalism Suspected

As for the dogs that survived, Shima described them as severely emaciated, trembling, and physically weak, with some barely able to stand. She said their condition suggested prolonged starvation and dehydration, raising fears that they had been left unattended for a significant period.

She further expressed concern that, in an attempt to survive, larger dogs may have been forced to consume puppies. According to her statement, the dog owner had claimed there were originally nine puppies, yet only two were found alive at the scene. The absence of the remaining puppies has prompted speculation about what may have occurred inside the locked unit.

Shima also alleged that the dog owner may have been residing elsewhere within the same building, while allowing the dogs to remain confined and neglected in the unit. This claim has added to public frustration, as it implies that the suffering could have been prevented.

Call for Public Support and Medical Aid

Following the rescue, Shima appealed to the public for assistance in covering rescue and veterinary expenses. She said the surviving dogs urgently require medical treatment, proper nourishment, and a safe environment to recover from their ordeal.

In her appeal, she emphasised that the animals were not merely suffering, but struggling to stay alive, and urged members of the public to help ensure they receive the care they need as soon as possible.
