PENANG, MALAYSIA — Malaysian police have confirmed that the body discovered stuffed in a suitcase behind a block of flats at Jalan Permatang Pauh on 9 October 2025 was that of Daniel Lee Boon Han, a 31-year-old sales manager and content creator who went missing earlier this week. His death is now being treated as murder.
Gruesome discovery behind flats
The grim find was made at around 1:43 p.m. by a drainage maintenance worker, who spotted the suitcase while carrying out cleaning work behind the residential area. Police were immediately alerted to the scene.
According to China Press, the victim had a deep slash wound on his neck, his hands were bound, and a plastic bag had been placed over his head. Investigators believe Lee was killed shortly before his body was found, based on the condition of the remains. Authorities are now examining whether he was murdered elsewhere before being placed in the suitcase and dumped at the location.
Last seen two days before discovery
Lee was last heard from around 1:00 a.m. on 7 October 2025, when a text message — believed by family members not to have been sent by him — stated that he was heading to Perlis for work and might return late.
His family became alarmed after he could not be reached from noon on 6 October, and his phone was later switched off. He had been scheduled to meet a new colleague that same evening but failed to show up.
Career and personal background
A graduate and sales manager in the insurance industry, Lee had received several professional awards. He was also known as a digital content creator, producing online interviews featuring young entrepreneurs in Penang.
His family arrived at the hospital mortuary on Thursday night as police worked to confirm his identity. The official identification was made on 10 October 2025.
Ongoing investigation
Police have classified the case as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code. Forensic teams continue to examine the scene and the victim’s vehicle, a Toyota Vios, which remains missing.
Authorities are appealing for information from anyone who may have seen suspicious activity near the flats or has knowledge of Lee’s movements before his disappearance.
