KUCHING, SARAWAK — The body of a missing woman was discovered inside a car parked at a shopping mall along Jalan Song on the afternoon of 29 October 2025, shocking shoppers and local residents.
Foul smell led to discovery
Police were alerted after members of the public detected a strong stench coming from a grey Nissan Grand Livina parked at the mall’s outdoor lot. Upon arrival, officers found the decomposing body of a woman inside the locked vehicle.
Forensic teams were deployed to the scene, and the area was cordoned off as evidence was collected. Witnesses said several bystanders gathered nearby as authorities worked to remove the body.
Believed to be missing 24-year-old woman
According to preliminary investigations, the deceased is believed to be 24-year-old Marianna Liew Ai Jia, who was reported missing several days earlier. She was last seen leaving her home on 25 October driving the same Nissan Grand Livina.
Earlier that morning, Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu had appealed to the public for information on her whereabouts.
Cause of death under investigation
Police have not yet disclosed the cause of death, though early findings suggest that the victim had been dead for some time before being discovered.
Authorities are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination to confirm the cause and time of death.
