MALAYSIA: A simple favour for a friend turned into an uncomfortable revelation when a Kedah woman discovered that her friend’s husband, stranded in flood-hit Hat Yai, was staying with another woman he had introduced as his “wife.”
Flood detour leads to unexpected discovery
The woman, known as Mommy Hannah on Threads, had travelled from Bangkok to Hat Yai by train on 22 November. After being picked up by her brother, she returned to Kedah through the Durian Burung border following warnings about worsening floods in southern Thailand.
Shortly after she reached home, a former university classmate contacted her and asked for help checking on her husband, who was reportedly trapped in a Hat Yai hotel with three colleagues. The group, all bankers from Penang, had been unable to leave due to floodwaters.
Hotel staff reveal husband was with another woman
Because the roads were still passable to four-wheel-drive vehicles, Hannah asked her Thai cousin to visit the hotel, with plans for her brother to pick up the stranded men later.
Hotel staff confirmed that four Malaysian men were indeed still there — but also revealed something unexpected. One of them, the husband in question, was staying with a woman he had introduced to the hotel as his “wife.”
“That was how we found out he was actually with someone else,” Hannah wrote on Threads. She later learned that the “colleague” her friend had been worried about was actually a woman who had been sharing his room for four days.
Wife still in confinement; disclosure undecided
Hannah said she has not told her friend yet, as the woman is currently in confinement after giving birth to her fourth child.
“I haven’t decided whether to tell her directly, but I plan to inform her sister first,” she said.

A reminder addressed to husbands
In her post, Hannah also directed a message to men, urging them to consider the emotional and moral consequences of their actions.
“Men, have mercy on your children and wives at home. If you are not ashamed of people, be ashamed of Allah,” she wrote, emphasising that her intention was not to seek attention but to remind wives not to place complete trust in their partners.
