MALAYSIA: A 60-year-old motorcyclist was killed and his wife seriously injured after their motorcycle collided with a lorry that suddenly turned into a junction on Jalan Ipoh–Lumut in Perak.

The incident occurred around 3pm on Saturday (6 December), according to Sinar Harian.

The victim, Ahmad Taufik Abu Bakar, died at the scene, while his 61-year-old wife, Azizah Mat Jamat, sustained a broken leg.

Lorry Signalled Right, Turned Left

Ipoh District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the couple had no time to react when the lorry unexpectedly turned left despite signalling to the right.

He said the victims’ motorcycle hit the side of the lorry, and the 23-year-old lorry driver did not suffer any injuries.

Vehicle Compliance Issues

Police noted that the motorcycle did not have valid road tax or insurance, while the lorry’s documents were up to date.

No arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Crash Footage Goes Viral

A video of the incident circulating online shows the lorry signalling right while stopped at a red light.

When the light turned green, the lorry turned left instead, leading the motorcycle to collide with its side.
