KUALA LUMPUR: A video showing a group of Malaysian motorcyclists performing dangerous stunts and blocking an ambulance on a highway has sparked public outrage after it went viral on TikTok.
The video was recorded by an ambulance staff member who expressed frustration over the reckless behaviour of the riders.
In the 20-second clip, several motorcyclists can be seen riding side by side while doing “superman” stunts — lying flat on their motorcycles — and obstructing the right lane, preventing an ambulance from passing through.
Ambulance Crew Delayed During Emergency Response
According to the man who shared the video, he and his colleagues were rushing to assist a road accident victim when they encountered the group.
Despite repeated honking, the riders refused to move aside.
“We were responding to a motor vehicle accident on the highway. These kids were doing stupid stunts right in front of us. We honked but they ignored us — they really made things difficult for others,” he wrote.
The riders eventually shifted to the left lane after several seconds, allowing the ambulance to continue its journey.
Public Condemn Reckless Behaviour
The video quickly drew widespread criticism online, with many users condemning the riders for endangering lives and obstructing emergency services.
Others questioned why such dangerous stunts were being carried out on a busy highway instead of designated race tracks.
Authorities Remind Drivers to Give Way to Emergency Vehicles
The Malaysian Road Safety Council (Majlis Keselamatan Jalan Raya) has reiterated that all road users must give way to emergency vehicles with flashing lights or sirens, as required under Rule 9 of the Road Traffic Rules 166/59.
Drivers who fail to comply can face legal action.
The council also urged motorists to remain alert and move safely to the side of the road when emergency vehicles approach.
The incident adds to ongoing concerns about “Mat Rempit” culture in Malaysia — groups of illegal street racers known for performing high-risk stunts and causing safety hazards on public roads.
