MALAYSIA: A nine-year-old girl was injured during an attempted abduction near her home in Rawang, Selangor, on Thursday evening, police said.
The incident occurred at about 6.50pm in Taman Bakawali, Bukit Sentosa 3, when the girl and her two siblings were walking approximately 500 metres to a nearby night market.
As they passed a house in the neighbourhood, a man allegedly chased the child and pulled her into the house.
Her elder brother followed and shouted for help as she was being taken upstairs.
The children’s father later told local media that when the boy shouted for help, the man became aggressive and assaulted the girl by kicking her in the head repeatedly and strangling her.
He also shared photographs on Facebook showing injuries to the child’s lips, blood stains on her shirt, and bruising on her neck.
Neighbours Intervene and Rescue Child
Neighbours who heard the commotion intervened and managed to rescue the girl.
She sustained injuries, including broken teeth, and was taken to the Emergency and Trauma Department at Hospital Sungai Buloh for treatment.
Her siblings were reported to be traumatised by the incident.
Police Confirm Inappropriate Act and Arrest Suspect
Hulu Selangor district police chief Superintendent Ibrahim Husin said police received a report from the victim and her siblings on Thursday (29 January).
He confirmed the girl had been approached by the suspect, dragged into the house and subjected to an inappropriate act, resulting in injuries.
The father said he had allowed the children to walk to the night market as the neighbourhood had always been considered safe and that he did not expect such an incident to occur.
Police subsequently arrested a 23-year-old unemployed local man.
A urine test conducted on the suspect returned positive for drugs.
The suspect has been remanded until 2 February to assist investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and provisions under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
