Penang husband allegedly stayed with wife’s body for four days before surrendering, police say
Malaysian police recovered a sharp knife believed to be the murder weapon after a man walked into a station and confessed to killing his wife four days earlier.

MALAYSIA: Police in Central Seberang Perai, Penang, have found a sharp knife believed to be the weapon used in the killing of a 44-year-old woman, who was allegedly murdered by her husband.
The weapon was recovered in the couple’s bedroom during forensic examination by the Penang Police Criminal Investigation Department’s D10 forensic unit and has since been classified as a key piece of evidence.
According to Central Seberang Perai District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Hilmi, the case began on Tuesday when a Malay man arrived at a nearby police station around 11.30am, claiming he had killed his wife. Officers immediately went to the couple’s second-floor flat to verify his confession.
When police entered the bedroom, they discovered the victim lying on a mattress, fully clothed and with a severe slash wound on her neck.
Initial assessment suggested that she had been dead for several days. Her body was later sent to Seberang Jaya Hospital for a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.
Investigators believe the 28-year-old unemployed husband stayed in the apartment with the victim’s body for four days before finally deciding to surrender himself. The motive for the killing remains unclear, and police say the investigation is still ongoing.
Police have detained the suspect and brought him before the Bukit Mertajam Magistrates’ Court to obtain a remand order.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code (murder), which carries the mandatory death penalty or imprisonment upon conviction.
Assistant Commissioner Hilmi urged the public not to circulate unverified claims regarding the case, warning that misinformation could interfere with police work.
