Riders attempted to flee
Seberang Perai Selatan district police chief Jay January Siowou said the arrested individuals were between 16 and 27 years old.

They were detained by officers from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the district police headquarters.

He said that when police ordered the riders to stop, the motorcyclists made a sudden U-turn and travelled against the flow of traffic towards Batu Maung.

He noted that this act posed extreme danger both to themselves and to other road users. Despite the attempted escape, police managed to arrest all of them.

Motorcycles seized under transport law

During the operation, 51 motorcycles were seized under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

All the suspects were taken to the Seberang Perai Selatan district police headquarters for further action following their arrest.

Police also inspected a total of 110 motorcycles during the enforcement operation.

Seventy-four summonses were issued for various traffic offences ranging from improper vehicle modifications to unsafe riding behaviour.

Authorities stated that such operations will continue to curb reckless riding and enhance safety along major routes in the region, particularly on bridges and expressways where dangerous stunts and evasive riding have become a recurring concern.
