Policeman injured after clinging to fleeing car during pursuit in Kuching

A police officer was injured in Kuching after clinging to a suspect’s car during a high-risk pursuit on 31 Jan. The 35-year-old man, linked to a house break-in and multiple motorcycle thefts, tested positive for drugs and has 20 prior criminal records. He was arrested after colliding with several vehicles on a flyover.

MALAYSIA: A police officer was injured during a high-risk pursuit in Kuching, Sarawak, after a suspect allegedly attempted to flee by car and collided with several vehicles on a flyover.

The incident occurred at about 1.30pm on Saturday, 31 January 2026, in the Taman Berjaya area at 4½ Mile, Jalan Penrissen.

The 35-year-old local man was arrested following the chase.

Suspect linked to house break-in and motorcycle theft cases

Kuching police chief Alexson Naga Chabu said the suspect had been tracked down following investigations into a house break-in reported on 30 Jan at Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho, as well as several motorcycle theft cases around the city.

The suspect was driving a white Perodua Viva when police attempted to detain him along Jalan Kuching–Serian towards Kuching city centre.

Officer injured while attempting to stop escape

Police said the suspect refused to cooperate and acted aggressively while trying to escape.

During the incident, a police officer sustained injuries to several parts of his body while attempting to detain the suspect.

A urine screening conducted on the suspect returned a positive result for drugs. Further checks revealed he has 20 previous criminal records.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code.

Police have appealed to the public for any information related to the case and urged those with relevant details to report to the nearest police station.
