MALAYSIA: A Singapore-registered Audi was involved in a serious accident in the early hours of 24 November, after the vehicle reportedly lost control and crashed into a row of single-storey terrace houses in Century Garden (Jalan Harimau), Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

The incident occurred at around 3am, when the car veered off the road and ploughed into the residential area.

Local reports noted that the road in the area is elevated above the houses, which may have contributed to the severity of the impact.

Homes Severely Damaged, Residents Awakened by Loud Bang

According to residents, the crash caused extensive damage to at least five houses.

One concrete pillar was knocked down, three walls were destroyed, and one wall was smashed open with a large hole.

Several car porches, zinc roofs and eaves were also damaged.

One affected female homeowner said she was jolted awake by a loud bang and initially thought it was thunder.

When she stepped outside to investigate, she was shocked to find part of her roof eaves smashed.

She added that the Audi appeared to have “flown over” a house gate before crashing into the walls separating two neighbouring homes.

Photos and videos shared by residents showed collapsed walls between houses, broken roofing materials and debris scattered across the area.

Car Overturned, Driver Escaped Through Broken Window

The Audi eventually overturned and landed upside down in front of one of the houses.

A resident said the driver, believed to be a young Singaporean man, did not appear to suffer serious injuries, though his leg was bleeding.

“He was still able to walk and talk,” the resident said, adding that the driver’s friend later arrived and sent him to the hospital.

Another resident said the driver did not flee the scene.

Instead, after the car overturned, he reportedly kicked open a window and climbed out on his own, which may have caused the cuts to his leg.

The man even approached a resident to ask for help retrieving his mobile phone, though she was too afraid to get close.

Neighbours later helped clean his wound and gave him water while waiting for assistance.

The damaged Audi remained lodged among the houses until around 9am on that day, when it was finally towed back onto the road.

Johor Bahru police were later present at the scene to conduct investigations.
