SARAWAK, MALAYSIA: Two male secondary school students in Kuching have been suspended after allegedly bullying and verbally harassing a female classmate, including making threats referencing Malaysia’s recent fatal school stabbing case, in an incident that has sparked fresh outrage over school violence.

According to Sin Chew Daily, the bullying took place on 22 October 2025, when the two boys allegedly threw stones at the girl’s head and back, hurled vulgar language at her, and made obscene jokes about rape and murder cases that recently made national headlines.

The victim reportedly broke down in tears and has since suffered emotional distress.

Parents report case; police and school take action

Lawyer Foo Xiang Wei, who heads the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Public Complaints Bureau, confirmed receiving a report from the girl’s parents. They later lodged a police report over the harassment, which left their daughter mentally and emotionally traumatised.

A parent-teacher conference was held the following day, attended by both students’ fathers and police officers. The two boys were given a verbal warning by police, made to apologise to the victim, and subsequently suspended for three days. One of the boys has been transferred to another class.

The victim was granted one day of school leave, which her parents later extended until 30 October, citing psychological trauma. She is currently receiving counselling support.

Police investigation and clarification

Padawan District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi confirmed that police are investigating the case under Section 507c of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation via communication.

He clarified that police did not find evidence supporting viral online claims that the boys had threatened to “stab her 300 times,” calling such reports false and misleading.

“Bullying has reached an alarming level”

Foo stressed that the case underscores the growing seriousness of school bullying in Malaysia, calling for stronger preventive measures and counselling support in schools.

“This incident shows that bullying has reached an alarming level that can no longer be ignored,” he said.
