An Israeli drone strike on 6 October 2025 targeted a vehicle on the road leading to Zibdin town in southern Lebanon, killing two people and injuring one, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry. The ministry said the attack occurred in the Nabatiyeh district, one of the main areas affected by months of cross-border hostilities.

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA) identified the victims as Hassan Atwi and his wife, Zainab Raslan, according to media. The couple’s two sons were previously killed during the past year of hostilities. Raslan, who was driving the vehicle, died at the scene, while Atwi was among the fatalities.

Atwi had been seriously injured in 2024 when Israel detonated pagers and walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah members, an attack that reportedly caused him to lose his sight.

The Israeli military confirmed responsibility for the strike, identifying Atwi as “Hassan Ali Jamil Atwi,” a senior Hezbollah operative involved in the group’s air defence unit. Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee stated on social media platform X that Atwi was overseeing “reconstruction and rearmament efforts” within

In a related development, the Israeli military announced that it had carried out separate strikes on “military compounds used by Hezbollah for training” in Lebanon’s eastern Bekaa region. Three Israeli air raids also targeted mountainous areas near Hermel, reportedly striking Hezbollah’s Radwan Force positions. No casualties were immediately reported from those attacks.

Despite a ceasefire agreement reached on 27 November 2024, Israeli forces have continued to conduct air and drone strikes across southern and eastern Lebanon, as well as in Beirut’s southern suburbs. Israel also maintains military positions at five locations inside Lebanese territory, according to local and UN sources.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights reported that Israeli attacks since the truce began have killed at least 103 civilians, many in residential areas and near UN peacekeeping positions. The organisation urged an immediate halt to violence and compliance with international humanitarian law.

Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) reported that from October 2023 to February 2025, more than 4,100 people were killed and over 17,300 others were injured in the country. The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) said that at least 71 civilians — among them nine children and 14 women — were killed in Lebanon during the ceasefire period.

Hezbollah, which has suffered substantial losses over the past year, faces growing domestic and international pressure to surrender its weapons.

The Lebanese government is expected to review the army’s first monthly report on a plan to disarm the group. The discussion is set to take place under mounting US and Israeli pressure, as political divisions deepen over the implementation of the disarmament process.
