COE premiums mixed as Category A car prices fall by nearly 7%
COE premiums showed a mixed trend in the 7 January bidding exercise, with Category A prices falling by 6.8% to S$102,009, while other categories saw moderate increases.

COE premiums closed mixed in the latest bidding exercise on 7 January, with notable declines observed in the Category A segment.
For Category A cars—defined as vehicles with engine capacities of 1,600cc and below, and horsepower not exceeding 130bhp—premiums dropped by 6.8 per cent to S$102,009. This marked a significant decrease from the previous price of S$109,501.
In contrast, Category B premiums, covering larger and more powerful cars, increased by 3.5 per cent. The premiums rose to S$119,100, compared to S$115,102 in the preceding bidding exercise.
Premiums in the Open category, which can be used for any vehicle type but are typically applied to larger cars, also saw an upward movement. Prices rose by 2.5 per cent to S$122,000 from S$119,000.
Commercial vehicle COEs, including goods vehicles and buses, experienced a minor dip. Premiums in this category fell by 1.9 per cent to S$75,503, down from S$77,003.
Motorcycle premiums, on the other hand, registered a noticeable increase. Prices rose by 7.5 per cent to S$8,689 from S$8,081.
The latest exercise drew a total of 4,347 bids for the available 3,218 COEs, reflecting continued high demand despite the mixed premium changes.
