SINGAPORE – A barge named Marco Polo 802 ran aground near Tanjong Beach, Sentosa, on the morning of 6 June 2025, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) confirmed.
Eco-tour agency Kayakasia was among the first to report the incident at around 7.30am, posting on social media that the vessel had blocked the lagoon and damaged floating sea barriers.
Vessel remains stable, no pollution detected
In a Facebook statement, MPA said the vessel is stable and carrying containers, with no reports of injuries, damage to other vessels, or marine pollution.
“The beach remains accessible to the public, and there is no impact on navigational safety in surrounding waters,” the authority added.
Recovery operations activated
Tug boats have been deployed to assist in moving the barge back to sea.
MPA noted it is coordinating with Sentosa Development Corporation and other relevant agencies to minimise disruption to the area.
Probe underway
An investigation into the incident has been launched to determine how the grounding occurred.
The incident follows several recent maritime issues in the Sentosa area, including oil-related incidents that affected its beaches in the past two years.
