An Indonesian man has been charged with the murder of his wife after her body was discovered in a hotel room in central Singapore.

The 41-year-old suspect, known only as Salehuddin, appeared in court on 25 October, 2025, following his arrest the previous day.

The victim, a 38-year-old Indonesian woman, was found motionless at Capri by Fraser China Square, located along South Bridge Road. Paramedics later pronounced her dead at the scene.

According to a police statement issued on Friday, Salehuddin had gone to Bukit Merah East Neighbourhood Police Centre at approximately 7.40am and informed officers that he had killed his wife.

Responding officers were dispatched to the hotel, where they found the woman unresponsive in the couple’s room.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the couple had checked into the hotel on the evening of 23 October at around 5pm. Hotel staff described them as appearing “normal” and “happy”, with no visible signs of conflict at the time.

Media reports state that the woman had been stabbed, though authorities have not officially confirmed the cause of death.

According to CNA, Salehuddin appeared before District Judge Tan Jen Tse on Saturday, wearing a red polo shirt. He was calm during proceedings and responded through a Bahasa Indonesia interpreter.

During the session, he asked whether he could be prosecuted or judged in Indonesia rather than Singapore.

Judge Tan informed him that the case was in its early stages and that no such applications would be entertained at this time.

Salehuddin then expressed his objection and acknowledged that he was facing the death penalty.

The court granted the prosecution's request to remand him for three weeks for psychiatric evaluation. A lawyer is expected to be assigned to him in due course.

The alleged murder prompted a visible police presence around the hotel on Friday morning.

At around noon that day, the woman’s body was transported from the hotel’s basement loading bay in a police hearse.

Officers were also seen removing several paper bags filled with evidence and loading them into a white police van.

Police, both in uniform and plain clothes, remained at the scene until early afternoon before departing.

Under Singapore law, the offence of murder carries the mandatory death penalty if the accused is convicted under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
