SINGAPORE: A Chai Chee Road HDB resident has taken to social media to complain about men allegedly urinating at the void deck, saying it has made the area “unpleasant and unhygienic”.
The post, uploaded to the Complaint Singapore Facebook group on Tuesday (28 Oct), included several videos showing men relieving themselves in public at the void deck.
In one of the clips, a man in a red T-shirt was seen pulling up his shorts after allegedly urinating in a corner before casually walking away.
Another video showed visible stains on the floor, suggesting that the act had occurred repeatedly.
‘Practically Turned Into an Open Toilet’
The resident expressed frustration, saying the void deck at Block 26 Chai Chee Road had “practically turned into an open toilet”, adding that people from all walks of life were seen urinating there daily.
He noted that a group often drinks beer in the open area and at the void deck, and that the issue tends to occur after 8 p.m.
“This issue has been ongoing for quite some time, usually after 8 p.m., and it has created an unpleasant and unhygienic environment,” the resident said.
He added that the strong smell of urine around the void deck is very noticeable and unpleasant.
Beyond hygiene concerns, the resident also highlighted safety issues, pointing out that individuals exposing themselves in public posed discomfort and risks to vulnerable residents.
Calls for Action from Authorities
Under the post, netizens suggested various solutions, including writing to the Member of Parliament or lodging a report with the police.
One user questioned why the town council had yet to take action on the matter.

Several users urged the town council to install CCTV cameras at the affected spot to deter offenders.

Others suggested that even fake cameras and warning signs indicating surveillance might discourage such behaviour.

One commenter also recommended banning the consumption of alcohol at void decks, making it an offence under public order regulations.
