A Singapore man’s late-night encounter with a python and a community cat has gone viral, after he intervened in what he described as a “primal courtroom where life and death were delivering their final verdict.”
Marcus Lee, who shared the incident on Facebook on 30 October, recounted how he was feeding two stray cats, Luna and SJ, when sudden rustling and animal cries broke the silence.
Expecting a routine cat fight, he instead found one of the community cats trapped in the crushing coils of a python inside a drain.
Torn Between Nature and Compassion
In his emotional post, Lee wrote that he faced a moral dilemma — whether to allow nature to take its course or step in to save the cat.
“The snake was not a murderer; it was a survivor,” he said, adding that intervening felt like disturbing a “sacred karma.”
Acting on Instinct
Ultimately, Lee acted.
Spotting the snake’s exposed tail, he grabbed it and lifted both predator and prey into the air, swinging them in an effort to force the python to release its grip.
“I swung them through the air, a desperate, whirling dance to disorient the snake,” he wrote.
A short video filmed by Lee shows the tense moment: the python coiled tightly around the struggling cat as he twirled them, before finally managing to separate the two.
The cat, described as “a blur of liberated fear,” bolted into the shadows once freed, while the python slithered away unharmed.
Lee later recorded another clip, captioned “Apologising to the python,” in which he expressed remorse for disrupting its hunt.
“Had it been the snake in distress, I would have fought just as fiercely for it,” he reflected. “This was not about choosing sides.”

The footage sparked debate among netizens.
Some applauded his compassion and courage, while others argued he should have let nature take its course, noting that pythons prey naturally on small animals.
Despite the divided opinions, Lee maintained that his decision came down to compassion in the moment. “If there is a price for this interruption, let the karmic debt be mine to bear,” he concluded.
