SINGAPORE: A 57-year-old woman was taken to hospital after a bottle was allegedly thrown at an SMRT bus travelling along Orchard Road on Saturday evening (5 July), leaving a hole in one of its windows.

The incident happened at around 6:45pm, according to Lianhe Zaobao.

Social media user “是cc啊” shared that the double-decker bus was passing The Heeren shopping mall when the object struck, causing a loud impact. Photos showed a fist-sized hole and cracked glass on the upper deck.

Vincent Gay, Deputy Managing Director of SMRT Buses, confirmed that the affected vehicle — operating on service 190 — had been hit by a bottle believed to have been thrown by a passer-by.

The driver immediately stopped the bus to ensure passengers’ safety, and commuters were later transferred to another vehicle to continue their journey.

“We are cooperating with the police in their investigations,” Gay said.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it received a call for assistance at about 6:45pm.

The injured passenger, a 57-year-old woman, was conscious when taken to Raffles Hospital for treatment.

Police investigations are ongoing.
