SINGAPORE: The Bukit Batok Driving Centre (BBDC) will close permanently by December 2030, authorities announced on Wednesday, 8 October 2025.
A new multi-storey facility described as a “next-generation driving centre” will replace it in Chua Chu Kang.
According to a joint news release by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) and the Singapore Police Force (SPF), the existing centre’s closure is part of plans to redevelop the Bukit Batok area for new residential developments.
A public tender was launched the same day for a 12,889 sq m land parcel along Lorong Bistari, located at the western fringe of Chua Chu Kang town.
The successful bidder will receive a 30-year lease to design, build, and operate the new driving centre, which will cater to learners for all classes of vehicle licences.
The future site will be connected to Yew Tee MRT station and will include a realigned section of Lorong Bistari to serve the new facility.
URA and SPF stated that the multi-storey design aims to optimise limited land space while offering “comprehensive and technologically advanced training facilities.”
The upcoming driving centre will feature simulator-based training, intelligent driving circuits with real-time monitoring, and sensor-based assessment systems designed to evaluate learners’ proficiency more accurately.
Authorities confirmed that the centre will include at least two intelligent driving circuits for licence testing across all vehicle classes, as well as two nursery circuits for both car and motorcycle learners.
Additionally, the centre will offer Class 4 and Class 5 training and testing for heavy vehicles, supplementing the existing Singapore Safety Driving Centre (SSDC) in Woodlands — currently the only facility handling heavy-vehicle training.
The URA specified that the Lorong Bistari site can be developed with a maximum permissible gross floor area of 72,500 sq m, accommodating driving circuits and other related facilities.
The tender for the new centre will close at 12pm on 15 January 2026, with construction expected to commence soon after the award.
The new facility will serve as the western region’s main driving centre, complementing the ComfortDelGro Driving Centre in Ubi, which currently caters to learners in the east.
