Small plane crash-lands on Florida highway, striking car and injuring driver
A 57-year-old Melbourne woman was injured after a small plane made an emergency landing on I-95 in Cocoa and crashed into her car. The Beechcraft 55 reported engine trouble before striking her Toyota Camry. The pilot and passenger were uninjured. FAA and Florida Highway Patrol are investigating.

A 57-year-old woman from Melbourne, Florida, is recovering from minor injuries after a Beechcraft 55 aircraft crash-landed onto Interstate 95 and collided with her vehicle during evening traffic on 8 Dec.
The plane struck her 2023 Toyota Camry before coming to rest partially atop a concrete barrier near State Road 520 in Cocoa.
Pilot Reported Engine Trouble Moments Before Impact
The aircraft, owned by Tailwinds Flying of Merritt Island, was carrying a 27-year-old pilot from Orlando and a 27-year-old passenger from Temple Terrace.
Both were uninjured. Federal authorities confirmed the pilot had reported engine problems just before the emergency landing.
Driver Taken to Hospital; Traffic Severely Affected
Video shared on social media shows passersby assisting the woman out of her crushed vehicle as she nervously joked about the wreck, asking, “Am I the only one who got hit?”
She was transported to Viera Hospital for treatment.
The crash caused significant delays, shutting down two southbound lanes of I-95 well into the evening.
FAA and Florida Highway Patrol Investigating
The FAA is leading the investigation into the collision, while the Florida Highway Patrol will conduct a parallel inquiry.
This marks the second small-plane landing on a Brevard County roadway in a month; on 7 Nov., another aircraft made an emergency landing along State Road 407 without causing injuries.
