CAMBODIA: Dramatic security footage captured a Vietnamese detainee receiving a firearm from a woman in the car park of Svay Rieng Provincial Court on 18 November.
The woman, wearing a baseball cap and appearing to wait near the police van, handed over the gun as the man stepped out.
He immediately raised the weapon towards officers, creating a brief moment of confusion and panic among those escorting him.
Escape involving multiple prisoners
After arming himself, the detainee grabbed the woman and ran towards the court’s main gate.
Several prisoners took advantage of the chaos and fled behind the pair.
One officer guarding the transport was visibly startled and dropped his motorcycle as the group broke through the gate.
Police deny ‘lover rescue’ claim
Social media speculation, particularly in China, suggested the woman risked her safety to rescue her boyfriend from court.
However, Cambodian police rejected these claims, asserting that the two were not romantically involved.
According to police statements, both individuals belonged to a criminal network linked to online gambling activities.
