PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA — A 14-year-old boy has been arrested after allegedly stabbing a 16-year-old female classmate to death at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bandar Utama 4 in Petaling Jaya on Tuesday (14 Oct) morning, in what police described as a deeply distressing act of school violence.

According to The Star, the attack occurred around 9.30am, when the suspect reportedly brought a sharp weapon — believed to be a knife — to school.

The victim, also a student at the school, was allegedly attacked just outside a classroom and died at the scene.

Police Confirm Arrest, Motive Still Unknown

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail confirmed the arrest, saying investigations are still underway to determine the motive.

“The suspect allegedly stabbed the female student outside a classroom, and she died at the scene. We have not established the motive behind the incident,” he said during a press briefing at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, where he was attending a police anti-bullying campaign.

Weapons Seized and Relationship Under Investigation

Petaling Jaya police chief Asst Comm Shamsudin Mamat, who led the investigation team at the scene, said two sharp weapons believed to have been used in the attack were seized.

He added that investigators are also looking into the relationship between the suspect and the victim, including the possibility that they were previously acquainted or involved romantically.

Local outlet WeirdKaya reported that the suspect had brought a knife to school and stabbed several other students.

Suspect to Be Remanded, Case Classified as Murder

“The suspect will be brought to court tomorrow for a remand application,” Shamsudin told China Press, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

As of Tuesday afternoon, police officers were still gathering witness statements and collecting evidence at the school. Authorities are expected to hold a press conference to provide further updates on the case.
