MALAYSIA: A 25-year-old Chinese Malaysian woman, Yang Mei Ling (transliteration), a uterine care therapist from Kuching, Sarawak, has gone missing after travelling to China earlier this month.
According to her family, Yang left Kuching on 8 December 2025, flew to Kuala Lumpur, and travelled onward to China the following day.
As of Tuesday (23 Dec), she has been uncontactable for five consecutive days.
Her family has lodged police reports on two consecutive days and has also sought help from Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to trace her whereabouts.
Last Contact and Conflicting Accounts
Yang’s elder sister told local media that her sister was usually very active on social media and frequently posted updates when travelling overseas. However, this trip stood out as unusual.
Yang’s last Instagram Story was posted on 15 Dec, with photos taken in Huzhou, China.
After that, all updates stopped. On 18 Dec, Yang briefly contacted her mother via WhatsApp, saying she would return to Malaysia on 19 Dec. The family has not heard from her since.
The sister said the family is unclear who Yang travelled with.
Friends suggested she may have been accompanied by a Chinese national, though this has not been verified.
Yang had told her family that she was travelling with company colleagues for filming purposes.
However, after checking with her employer, the family was told no such work trip had been arranged, raising further concern over the inconsistencies.
Confirmed Entry Into China, Whereabouts Unknown
With the help of friends in China, the family has confirmed that Yang did enter China and had visited Chongqing, Shanghai and Huzhou.
Despite this, her current whereabouts remain unknown.
The family has also requested assistance to check her immigration records and has lodged reports with both Malaysian and Chinese authorities.
Asked whether they feared Yang may have been deceived or coerced into illegal activities, her sister said the family could not rule out any possibility at this stage.
“We are extremely worried, but all we can do now is wait and hope for new information,” she said.
Unusual Online Silence Fuels Worry
Yang is known among friends for her love of travel and photography, often sharing photos online. However, during this trip, she posted far less than usual.
Between 13 and 15 December, she uploaded only five Instagram posts, all showing her alone.
No further updates have appeared since then, which her family described as highly out of character.
Family Appeals for Public Help
Yang’s family stressed that she had never mentioned plans to work overseas and showed no signs of distress before leaving Malaysia.
They are urging anyone with information about Yang Mei Ling’s movements or contacts to reach out to the police or her family directly at +6019-332 1314.
