PETALING JAYA, SELANGOR — The mother of 16-year-old Yap Shing Xuen, who was brutally killed at SMK Bandar Utama 4, has revealed shocking details of the attack, pleading with the public to stop spreading misinformation and online scams surrounding her daughter’s death.

Mother reveals horrifying details of the attack

At an emotional press conference, Wong Lee Ping, 44, said her daughter had been stabbed around 200 times, far more than the “50 wounds” reported by some media outlets.
“The wounds covered her entire body — from her neck and lungs to her legs,” she said tearfully.

According to Wong, police told her that the attack occurred inside the school washroom, where the 14-year-old male suspect allegedly jumped over a locked cubicle door to reach Yap.
“My daughter screamed for help, and people heard her,” Wong recounted. “After stabbing her, the boy ran off, leaving her locked inside. When teachers broke open the door, she was already gone.”

Plea to stop spreading false claims and scams

Wong also addressed the spread of false rumours online — including claims that her daughter had a relationship with the suspect. “She didn’t know the boy, had never spoken to him, and was not in any relationship with him,” she said firmly.

She further warned against online scams exploiting the tragedy, noting that fake donation QR codes and posts falsely identifying her son as the suspect’s father were circulating on social media.
“These lies are hurting my family even more,” she pleaded. “Please stop spreading them.”

Public reaction and investigation updates

The 14-year-old suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and has been remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek and Deputy Minister Wong Kah Woh have since visited the family to offer their condolences and assure them of the government’s full support.

Yap, a Form Three student, was described as cheerful and hardworking. She had recently won second place in a sports competition at the International School of Kuala Lumpur just two days before her death.

The victim’s wake is being held at Nirvana Center KL and will continue until 20 October 2025.
