Malaysian female e-hailing driver seriously injured in knife attack in Sepang; suspect found after car crash

SELANGOR, MALAYSIA: A 60-year-old woman working as an e-hailing driver was seriously injured after being attacked with a sharp weapon in Sepang on 22 December 2025.
The incident occurred while she was inside her vehicle at an open parking area in Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi.
According to local media reports, Sepang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Norhizam Bahaman said the woman was allegedly slashed with a karambit, a small curved knife, during the attack.
The suspect, believed to be known to the victim, fled the scene in her car.
According to Norhizam, the attack took place at about 9.40pm at an open parking area along Jalan 2, Business Park, Medan 120, Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi.
The victim sustained severe slash wounds to her neck and left arm.
“She suffered slash wounds to the neck and left arm, believed to have been inflicted with a sharp weapon,” Norhizam said in a statement. The injuries were described as serious and required immediate medical attention.
The victim was rushed to Hospital Cyberjaya for treatment, where she remains under medical care. Police did not disclose further details about her current condition.
Following the attack, the suspect escaped in the victim’s Perodua Bezza.
Police immediately launched investigations and issued alerts to nearby districts.
Later that night, at about 11.15pm, Nilai police headquarters informed Sepang police that a suspect had been identified. The man, aged 69, was involved in a road accident at Taman Desa Melati, Phase 3, Nilai.
Police discovered the suspect inside the victim’s vehicle after the crash.
He was found covered in blood and suffering from injuries to his neck, according to Norhizam.
“A weapon believed to be a karambit was also found with him in the vehicle,” Norhizam said.
The knife was seized as evidence for further investigation.
The suspect was taken to Hospital Cyberjaya for treatment. Police said he is currently being closely monitored in the intensive care unit.
Norhizam confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder. Upon conviction, the offence carries a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine.
He added that if the injuries sustained by the victim result in permanent disability, the offender may face a jail term of up to 20 years, as provided under the law.
Police are continuing to investigate the motive behind the attack and the relationship between the victim and the suspect. Authorities have not released further details pending the outcome of ongoing inquiries.
