MALAYSIA: Malaysian police are investigating an incident in which a man was seen sitting cross-legged on a highway lane along the North–South Expressway (NSE), causing traffic congestion and raising safety concerns after footage of the episode circulated widely online.
Kajang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said authorities were alerted to the incident after a video was uploaded on Facebook at about 3.55 pm on Saturday (24 Jan).
Initial investigations found the incident had taken place earlier, at around 12.30 pm on Thursday (22 Jan), at Kilometre 290 of the expressway.
Man Believed to Be Lorry Driver
Police said the man, believed to be a lorry driver, had parked his vehicle on the emergency lane before proceeding to sit cross-legged in the first lane of the highway for reasons that remain unclear.
His actions disrupted traffic flow and created a potentially dangerous situation for other motorists.
Investigation Underway
Naazron said the case is being investigated under Section 48(1) of Malaysia’s Road Transport Act 1987 for obstructing traffic, as well as Section 336 of the Penal Code for acts endangering the safety of others.
Police have urged anyone with information to assist with the investigation and reminded road users to behave responsibly on major highways.
