BATU PAHAT, MALAYSIA — A 63-year-old man was killed after a 100kg long-shaft connector detached from a tipper lorry and struck the vehicle he was travelling in along Jalan Sri Bengkal, Sri Gading, at about 8.30am on 24 November 2025.

The victim, Juhari Murid, was travelling from Senggarang to FELDA Pemanis in Segamat with four family members. According to Sinar Harian, he was riding in a Perodua Alza driven by his younger brother, Aspar, accompanied by his wife, Zaina Khalid, and two other siblings.

The family’s MPV was passing a lorry when an iron shaft — believed to be a coupling shaft component — detached from the heavy vehicle. The 100kg metal piece reportedly bounced off the road before smashing through the car’s windscreen and hitting Juhari in the face.

Juhari sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from Klinik Kesihatan Sri Gading. His wife and three other relatives escaped unharmed.

Batu Pahat police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani confirmed that a police report had been lodged and said initial investigations found the MPV was en route to Parit Yaani before heading to Segamat when the incident occurred.

“When the vehicle reached the scene, an object believed to be a coupling shaft component detached from the lorry coming from the opposite direction before speeding towards the MPV and piercing through the front windscreen,” he said in a statement.

Juhari’s daughter, Noor Shahin, 31, told the New Straits Times she was shocked when informed of the accident.

“I had a bad feeling about him going to Segamat. I didn't expect to lose someone I love,” she said. She rushed from Muar to Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail upon receiving the call.

She added that she last spoke to her father via video call the day before and that he had been excited to meet his three-month-old grandson. “Instead of bringing my son to see him, I'm returning to view his body,” she said.

His son, Mohd Danis Hakim, 22, urged authorities to take firm action against the lorry owner or company if negligence is found to have caused the fatal incident.

Police said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving resulting in death.
