Namewee in hiding as police classify influencer’s death as murder
Malaysian rapper Namewee is believed to be in hiding after police reclassified the death of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin as murder. Authorities say he was last seen with her before her body was found in a Kuala Lumpur hotel on 22 October.

Malaysian police are actively searching for rapper Wee Meng Chee, known professionally as Namewee, who has reportedly gone into hiding.
This follows the reclassification of the death of Taiwanese social media influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Namewee last seen with Hsieh before her death
Hsieh, 30, also known as “Nurse Goddess” online, was found dead in a hotel bathtub on 22 October in Kuala Lumpur.
She was in Malaysia reportedly for a work project with Namewee. Authorities confirmed that he was the last person seen with her before her death.
Police reclassify case as murder
Kuala Lumpur police chief Commissioner Fadil Marsus announced on 4 November that the case had been upgraded from sudden death to murder after new findings emerged during the investigation.
“The case was originally classified as sudden death, but after reviewing the findings, we have reclassified it as murder,” he said. No further details were released.
He also confirmed that police had been unable to contact Namewee and now believe he has gone into hiding.
“We believe Namewee is aware of the ongoing investigation, which has been reported through both official media and social media channels,” said Fadil. “We have not been able to locate him.”
Cause of death still under investigation
When Hsieh’s body was discovered in a dry bathtub, there were no visible signs of struggle. Early suggestions pointed to a possible heart attack, but these reports have not been confirmed.
Police have not named any additional suspects or disclosed new evidence. The cause of death remains under investigation.
Namewee denies involvement
On 2 November, Namewee took to Instagram to deny any wrongdoing.
“I haven’t used drugs, nor have I been carrying any. At most, I’ve just been drinking more lately,” he wrote in Mandarin.
He also claimed that he and others linked to the case were being blackmailed, saying they were “ready to fight to the end.”
Despite denying any involvement, his current whereabouts are unknown.
