Malaysian rapper Namewee has reported to a police station in Kuala Lumpur after authorities issued a warrant for his arrest in connection with the death of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh Yu-hsin.

On 5 November, Namewee confirmed via Instagram that he had travelled from Johor Bahru to surrender himself voluntarily, stating: “I won't run away.”

He wrote, “I had previously arranged with the police to report myself. I have now arrived at the police station and will fully assist in the investigation, to give the public and the victim's family an explanation.”

“I’ve voluntarily reported myself for all seven previous arrest warrants, never once fled,” he added.

Hsieh’s body found in hotel bathtub

Hsieh, 30, known online as “Nurse Goddess,” was discovered dead in a dry hotel bathtub on 22 October in Kuala Lumpur.

According to police, she had travelled to Malaysia for a work-related project with Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee.

Authorities confirmed that Namewee was the last person seen with Hsieh prior to her death.

Case upgraded to murder

On 4 November, Kuala Lumpur police chief Commissioner Fadil Marsus announced that the case had been reclassified from sudden death to murder following new investigative findings.

“The case was originally classified as sudden death, but after reviewing the findings, we have reclassified it as murder,” said Fadil during a press briefing.

However, police have not disclosed the nature of these new findings, nor have they named additional suspects.

At the time of the announcement, Fadil said police had been unable to contact Namewee, who was believed to be avoiding authorities.

“We believe Namewee is aware of the ongoing investigation, which has been reported through both official media and social media channels,” Fadil said.

Cause of death remains unclear

Despite the case being upgraded to murder, the exact cause of Hsieh’s death has not been confirmed.

Initial reports suggested a possible heart attack, but no visible signs of struggle were found at the scene.

Investigators have continued to withhold specific forensic findings and have not clarified whether toxicology results or other medical evidence prompted the reclassification.

Namewee denies involvement

On 2 November, prior to reporting to the police, Namewee posted a statement on Instagram denying any role in Hsieh’s death.

“I haven’t used drugs, nor have I been carrying any. At most, I’ve just been drinking more lately,” he wrote in Mandarin.

He also alleged that he and others linked to the case were being blackmailed, though no further details or evidence were provided.

“We are ready to fight to the end,” he added.
