- Namewee was acquitted after a chemist’s report showed his urine test result was negative.
- Prosecutors withdrew the drug use charge, leading the court to grant a full acquittal.
- The rapper still faces a separate drug possession case that will be mentioned later.
MALAYSIA: Malaysian rapper and filmmaker Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, was acquitted on 22 December 2025 by the Magistrates’ Court in relation to a drug use charge.
Magistrate S. Arunjothy ordered his release after the prosecution submitted a chemist’s report confirming that Wee’s urine test result was negative.
Following the submission, the court granted a full acquittal, bringing the case to a close.
Prosecution Withdraws Charge
During the court mention, Deputy Public Prosecutor Amritpreet Kaur Randhawa informed the court that the prosecution was withdrawing the charge against Wee due to the negative test findings.
She submitted a copy of the chemist’s report as evidence, stating that there was no basis to proceed with the drug use charge in light of the laboratory results.
Defence Seeks Acquittal Order
Wee’s lawyer, Joshua Tay, urged the court to formally acquit his client, arguing that the negative report meant there was no reasonable prospect of conviction.
He told the court that since the scientific evidence did not support the allegation, Wee should be cleared of the charge. Magistrate Arunjothy agreed and granted a full acquittal.
Despite the acquittal in the drug use case, Wee still faces a separate drug possession charge at another Magistrates’ Court.
The rapper had previously been charged on 24 October with possession of 5.12g of ecstasy at a hotel room along Jalan Conlay, as well as allegations of self-administering multiple substances at the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department toilet at Dang Wangi district police headquarters.
The remaining possession case is scheduled for mention on 19 January 2026.
