PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA — A 16-year-old student at SMK Bandar Utama 4 was brutally killed on 14 October after sustaining multiple stab wounds in what the local community describes as one of the most shocking cases of school violence in Malaysia’s recent memory.

Victim Suffered Multiple Stab Wounds

A post-mortem revealed that the victim suffered repeated stab wounds to her chest and neck, causing her to bleed to death within minutes.

Police said she was attacked inside a toilet cubicle during school hours.

The suspect, a 14-year-old male student, is currently under police remand for seven days.

Preliminary investigations suggest that he harboured romantic feelings for the victim but never expressed them.

Authorities confirmed that the two were not personally acquainted and studied in different classes and grade levels.

Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the boy allegedly followed the victim into the washroom after seeking permission to leave an examination session.

He then attacked her multiple times using a knife.

Police Deny Rejection Motive

Earlier claims that the suspect had confessed his feelings and been rejected by the victim were denied by police.

“The suspect had never confessed to her and had been suppressing his feelings,” Shazeli said during a press conference on 15 October.

Investigations also revealed that the boy had a fascination with tactical gear and knives, which he had purchased online through several e-commerce platforms.

Two weapons—a knife and a kerambit—were recovered from him.

“Based on the preliminary post-mortem report, the cause of death was multiple stab wounds to the chest and neck, and only one knife was used in the attack,” Shazeli clarified.

Emotional Triggers Under Investigation

Police have ruled out bullying or prior conflict as motives, noting that the suspect had no disciplinary record.

Instead, emotional distress and social media exposure are being examined as possible contributing factors.

Authorities also confiscated two handwritten notes from the suspect, one of which read, “Dunia ni palsu. Saya sudah menang” (“This world is fake. I have won”).

Shazeli confirmed the authenticity of the note and said handwriting analysis is being conducted to verify its authorship.

Toxicology tests found no traces of drugs or alcohol in the suspect’s system, though officers noted that he appeared emotionally detached during questioning.

So far, police have recorded statements from 57 witnesses, and the investigation is ongoing under Section 302 of the Penal Code (murder).

Community in Mourning

Outside the school gates, bouquets of flowers have been placed in tribute to the victim.

“I needed to do this to have some closure,” said one parent, whose child attends the school.
