SINGAPORE: Eligible households in Singapore will be able to apply for public transport vouchers worth S$60 from 20 January 2026, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Transport and the People’s Association.

The vouchers aim to help lower-income families manage their commuting expenses throughout the year, Senior Minister of State for Transport Murali Pillai said in an Instagram post on Monday.

The scheme is open to households with a monthly household income per person of not more than S$1,800, continuing the eligibility threshold used in previous years.

According to a joint statement by the Ministry of Transport and the People’s Association, the 2025 Public Transport Voucher exercise is being conducted in two stages, similar to earlier exercises.

The first stage took place in December 2025, when notification letters were sent to about 300,000 households that had received vouchers in the previous year and continued to meet the income criterion.

The second stage will begin on Tuesday, 20 January 2026, and will run until 31 October 2026, allowing more households to apply for assistance.

Households that meet the income eligibility requirement but did not receive a notification letter in the first stage can apply during the second stage.

Applications can be submitted online or in person at local community centres or community clubs, commonly known as CCs.

During this application period, households that require additional assistance can also submit applications, including those whose household incomes exceed the stated eligibility threshold.

The authorities said these cases will be assessed individually, reflecting flexibility in supporting families facing financial difficulties.

Households that have received a public transport voucher notification letter can redeem their vouchers by following the instructions provided in the letter.

Redemption options include the SimplyGo app, SimplyGo kiosks, top-up kiosks, assisted service kiosks, SimplyGo ticket offices and SimplyGo ticketing service centres.

The vouchers issued under the 2025 Public Transport Voucher exercise will remain valid until 31 March 2027, giving recipients ample time to use them.

Residents with queries or who require assistance with applications or redemption can approach their local community centres for help.

The voucher scheme comes against the backdrop of higher public transport fares announced by the Public Transport Council (PTC) in October 2025.

Under the revised fares, adult card journeys increased by between 9 and 10 cents per trip, while concession card journeys beyond 3.2km rose by 3 to 4 cents.

These fare adjustments took effect on 27 December 2025, marking the latest annual revision to public transport prices.

For the first time, the surcharge for express bus services was also raised, adding to commuting costs for some passengers.

Overall, public transport fares increased by about 5 per cent, which was lower than the 6 per cent increase implemented in the previous year.

The PTC previously stated that fare adjustments are necessary to address rising operating costs, including manpower and maintenance expenses, and to support the continued expansion of the transport network.
