SINGAPORE: A man who said he consumed drugs with former lawyer M Ravi hours before Ravi’s death will be charged on Friday (26 December 2025) for arranging a gathering where controlled drugs were consumed.

The offence carries a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment and 10 strokes of the cane under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

In a joint statement, the Singapore Police Force and the Central Narcotics Bureau said the 40-year-old man and Ravi had known each other since 2023.

They first met through a social networking application and had maintained contact since then.

According to investigations, the two met at the man’s apartment along Upper Boon Keng Road on 24 December 2025.

The man stated that both of them allegedly consumed drugs that had come from each of them during the gathering, and engaged in other activities.

He claimed that Ravi, who was 56, later began to display “concerning symptoms” and became unresponsive after the alleged drug consumption.

Emergency response and hospitalisation

The man told investigators that he administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Ravi before calling the Singapore Civil Defence Force for assistance.

Ravi was conveyed unconscious to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead.

Police previously said preliminary investigations did not suggest foul play, though investigations remain ongoing.

Alleged disposal of drugs and further offences

CNB’s follow-up investigations revealed that the man may have deliberately disposed of some drugs before police officers arrived at the apartment.

As a result, he has also been referred to the police for a possible offence of perverting the course of justice.

The man was arrested by CNB for suspected drug-related offences. Officers seized drug-related items from the apartment during the arrest.

Ongoing investigations and coroner review

The man’s urine tested positive for a controlled drug in an instant urine test.

His urine samples will be sent to the Health Sciences Authority for confirmatory analysis.

Authorities said investigations by CNB and the police are ongoing. Once completed, the findings will be submitted to the State Coroner.

The coroner will then determine whether a formal inquiry into Ravi’s death is necessary.
