SINGAPORE: Mediacorp, the parent company of CNA, has confirmed that it has filed a police report to verify the authenticity and origin of a screenshot allegedly showing CNA’s verified Facebook account commenting on an old post by Minister K. Shanmugam.
The comment allegedly appeared below a Facebook post originally shared by Minister Shanmugam on 3 November 2015, in which he reflected on the late Lee Kuan Yew’s legacy and Singapore’s future.
A screenshot of the comment surfaced online on Thursday (16 Oct) when local film director Yusri Sapari shared it on Facebook with the caption, “CNA admin caught.”
His post has since attracted more than 400 reactions and 255 shares.
The screenshot was later circulated by other Facebook pages, including Critical Spectator, and also reshared on Reddit, where it garnered over 1,900 upvotes.
Content of the Alleged Comment
The alleged comment, which appeared to come from CNA’s verified account, read:
“Typical playbook — talking to their base, rallying their troops and generals, but their real target is actually to corner and neutralise the WP.”
“WP” in this context likely referred to the Workers’ Party.
Another Facebook user claimed she had seen the comment on the same day.
As of the time of writing, the comment can no longer be found.
Mediacorp’s Response
In response to media queries, Mediacorp confirmed it had lodged a police report to verify the authenticity and origin of the screenshot.
The company did not comment on whether CNA’s Facebook account had been compromised.
Public Reaction
On social media, several netizens speculated that “someone is going to lose their job,” while others remarked that CNA staff with administrative access would likely be able to identify which profile made the comment.
Some users also suggested that the comment resurfaced recently because the original 2015 post was reshared by retired diplomat Bilahari Kausikan, prompting renewed engagement and visibility.
