NDP 2025 rehearsal participant dies after collapsing at the Padang

A National Day Parade (NDP) 2025 rehearsal at the Padang turned tragic on 21 June when a 47-year-old participant collapsed and later died despite immediate medical intervention.
The man, identified as auxiliary police officer Muhammad Adzri bin Abd Adziz, was representing Changi Airport Group (CAG) in the OneChangi contingent.
Immediate medical response
According to a joint statement by the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) and CAG, the incident occurred at 11:23am, close to the end of the morning rehearsal.
On-site medics transferred him to a medical post within three minutes, where a duty medical officer began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) without delay.
By 11:42am, Adzri was placed in a Singapore Armed Forces ambulance on standby and transported to Singapore General Hospital. He arrived at 11:57am, but despite continued efforts by hospital staff, he was pronounced dead at 12:19pm.
Family informed and supported
Mindef and CAG stated that they are providing full support to Adzri’s family. “Changi Airport Group and the NDP 2025 Executive Committee are in contact with the family and providing full support during this difficult time. We extend our deepest condolences,” the statement read.
Adzri’s younger brother later identified him publicly in a Facebook post. He confirmed that the matter has been classified as a State Coroner’s case, with an official investigation underway.
The family has been informed that all paramedic and hospital emergency reports will be reviewed, with preliminary findings expected by 22 June.
Funeral arrangements
Plans were made for Adzri’s body to be brought back to his family home at Block 424 Tampines Street 41. Burial was scheduled between the Muslim prayer times of Zuhur and Asar on Sunday, in line with Islamic funeral traditions.
Background and significance
Adzri was reportedly serving as a uniformed auxiliary police officer with CISCO at Changi Airport. His sudden passing has shocked his community, particularly as he had been participating in rehearsals for one of Singapore’s most significant national events.
Mindef emphasised that all NDP participants are required to submit health declarations and are reminded not to continue if unwell. The ministry added that robust safety protocols, including on-site medical staff and evacuation procedures, are in place, though medical emergencies can still occur.
The NDP 2025 parade, scheduled for 9 August, will feature both military and civilian contingents at the Padang and Marina Bay. Adzri was part of the OneChangi group, representing nine companies linked to Changi Airport.

Investigations by the State Coroner will determine the cause of Adzri’s death, with findings expected to clarify whether underlying health conditions played a role.
The tragedy has renewed focus on the health and well-being of participants in national events, where rehearsals often involve long hours in the heat and physical exertion.
