SINGAPORE: A screenshot circulating on social media appeared to show a caption from a People’s Action Party (PAP) Member of Parliament, Gho Sze Kee, containing text generated by ChatGPT.

The screenshot, shared widely on Reddit and other platforms, showed the caption beginning with the line: “Here’s your merged post with all dashes removed and the flow kept natural.”

This phrasing resembled a response from an artificial intelligence assistant rather than a human-written caption.

The post was originally published on 7 November 2025 on Gho’s official Instagram page.

It featured several photos of the MP engaging with residents at Pine Close in Mountbatten Single Member Constituency (SMC).

A review of the post as of 12 November showed that the apparent AI-generated text had been removed.

The remaining caption now summarises Gho’s visit and community interactions without any reference to AI-generated phrasing.

Heidoh has reached out to the MP for her comments, and as of 12 pm on 13 November, a response is still pending. Should Ms Gho reply, this article will be updated accordingly.

The incident drew mixed reactions online.

Some comments criticised Gho for what they described as unprofessionalism and overreliance on generative AI, alleging that such behaviour reflected a lack of personal engagement.

Others accused the MP of deleting critical remarks and posting “low-effort” content.

On Reddit, users reacted with satire, a comment imagined a prompt for Prime Minister Lawrence Wong written in a formal tone filled with bureaucratic phrasing and Singlish inflections.

Others ridiculed the incident as symbolic of what they described as “part-time MPs with full-time pay,” suggesting that the growing use of AI could make politicians appear detached from their constituents.

Some Reddit users, however, defended the use of generative AI tools, noting that such technologies are increasingly common in professional and social media contexts.

They argued that the use of AI is acceptable provided posts are carefully reviewed and edited before publication.
