SINGAPORE — Two women working as NParks contractors have received widespread praise after they were filmed calmly capturing a large reticulated python at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 on 21 October 2025, impressing netizens with their skill and composure.
A passer-by recorded the scene at Block 338 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1, showing the two women carefully extracting the python from a bush near the base of an overhead bridge.
Working in tandem, they gently secured the reptile before placing it into a containment bag for safe relocation. Throughout the process, the snake appeared calm — though, as one online commenter joked, “it looked quite unimpressed.”
Public praise and humour online
The video quickly went viral after being uploaded to Facebook, drawing thousands of reactions and comments. Many users commended the women’s professionalism and courage.
“Wow! You see those two women catching a large snake. Don’t underestimate women — if men can, so can women,” one user wrote. Another commented humorously, “I’m a man, but I’ll run.”
NParks response and reminder
According to How Choon Beng, NParks’ Group Director of Wildlife Management, the python was safely removed from the site and handed over to the Mandai Wildlife Group for veterinary checks. If deemed healthy, it will be released into a forested area away from human activity.
Reticulated pythons are native to Singapore and play a vital ecological role by helping control rodent populations. NParks reminded the public that snakes are generally shy and non-aggressive unless provoked.
What to do if you encounter a python
Members of the public are advised to stay calm, move away slowly, and avoid trying to catch or disturb the animal. Anyone who spots a python should call NParks at 1800-476-1600 for professional assistance.
