A shocking double homicide has rocked New Taipei City after an elderly couple were found brutally stabbed to death in their living room. Police suspect the victims’ son, who fled the home shortly before the bodies were discovered, and a manhunt is now underway.

TAIWAN: An elderly couple, both in their 70s and surnamed Liao, were found brutally murdered inside their home in New Taipei City’s Luzhou District on Saturday (18 January).
The victims were discovered lying in the living room, covered in blood, after a concerned relative alerted the police.
The male victim’s cousin said she had tried calling the couple repeatedly since the previous day but received no response.
Worried something was wrong, she went to their residence and noticed the phone ringing inside but no one answering the door. She then contacted the police.
Multiple Stab Wounds Found
Officers forced entry with the help of a locksmith and found both victims already dead, each suffering more than 10 stab wounds.
Forensic investigators believe the couple had been dead for over a day.
The exact causes of death are still under investigation.
Son Seen Fleeing the Scene
Police investigations revealed that the couple lived with their son.
CCTV footage showed him leaving the residence in a panicked state on a motorcycle at around 9pm on 17 January.
He has not returned since and is now the prime suspect.
Neighbours Recall Disturbing Noises
Neighbours told police they had recently heard loud banging sounds coming from the unit upstairs.
One resident said that at around 4pm on 17 Jan, there were repeated sounds of knocking against the floor and walls.
At the time, no one suspected anything serious, but the noises now appear deeply unsettling in hindsight.
Possible Family Dispute Behind the Killings
Police believe the suspect may have been involved in ongoing disputes with his parents, possibly related to family property or everyday living issues.
The New Taipei City Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Corps and the Luzhou Precinct have formed a special task force and are working closely with prosecutors to track down the suspect and determine the exact motive.
